Gun Violence in Indiana

Firearms were the leading cause of death among children and teens ages 1-17 in 2022 in Indiana, highlighting the devastating toll of gun violence on young lives.

In 2021, there were at least 90 domestic violence-related homicides, and 67% were committed with firearms.

Young Black males ages 15-34, who make up just 2% of Indiana’s population, accounted for a staggering 36% of all gun homicides in 2022.

These statistics underscore the urgent need for comprehensive gun safety measures, domestic violence prevention programs, and community-focused interventions to save lives and create safer communities.


Indiana had the 18th highest gun death rate in the country in 2022.  

1,211 lives were lost in 2022.


The overall gun death rate has increased 34% from 2013 to 2022.



Guns are used in the majority of homicides & suicides.


Unintentional Shootings by Children

2023 had the highest number of unintentional shootings by children since Everytown for Gun Safety started tracking them in 2015.
